Taking the form of a sculptural object, Beatrice Valentine Amrhein’s Videos Lustre features dozens of cell phones hanging from the ceiling like a chandelier, each running a short film on the cell phone’s screen.
Illustrating the notions of intimacy and immediacy, the cell phone is, in a sense, a third eye for BVA. The low level of quality it implies changes our perception of the very subject. More than a communication tool, these new generation mobiles allow us to capture our own environment (intrusive eye) as well as being a part of us (hand extension).
