Few make bags that last like Tom Bihn.
The Smart Alec is a modular backpack system: customize it to carry your gear with a variety of interior and exterior organizational pockets. 13 webbing loops on the front of the Smart Alec and an included removable reflective bungee make it easy to secure a rain jacket, umbrella, yoga mat, or bike helmet to the front of the bag. Ride your motorcycle or bike or walk at night with your Smart Alec? Add our Glowire electroluminescent wire kit. Designed to attach to the webbing loops are the optional Upper Modular Pocket, Lower Modular Pocket, and 1″ Gate Keeper Straps.
Tom Bihn bags are simply the best made bags you can buy. I have 5 and believe they may never need to be replaced.
The Synapse 25 backpack is a carefully calculated, supremely organized backpack, designed for day hiking, everyday carry, and ultralight travel. No mesh pockets clutter the exterior of this bag, nor extraneous straps festoon it; in it, you’ll be able to carry more than you would imagine, and no one will be the wiser.
I also have a short review of one of their bags long overdue.
I love the look of this backpack from Topo Designs. Made in their LEED certified facility in Colorado, this daypack is made from 1000d Cordura making this durable enough for the rigours of hiking or punishment of daily urban use. I’m not entirely fussy about the front leather tabs but otherwise this looks perfect.
Carryology has a well written and thorough review where they conclude: “The Daypack holds everything you’d need to go to work or school, is comfortable to wear, can stand up to a beating, and is versatile enough to work in almost any situation, with almost any wardrobe. What more could you ask for?”
