A new collaboration between protective case maker Pong and the design firm IDEO attempts to take care of your body and actually look cool while doing so. Gold Reveal is the newest offering in Pong’s lineup of radiation-deflecting phone and tablet cases. From Wired:
With a sleek frame in rich colors and a latticed back that reveals a hint of gold metal, the case is an upgrade from the other clunky plastic options on the market. But more importantly, Gold Reveal is as effective as Pong’s original designs in protecting users from the electromagnetic radiation our cellular and wireless devices emit.
Every Pong case comes with a built-in, golden-hued antenna. This antenna pairs with the cell phone’s antenna to form a small magnetic field, which draws the cell phone’s power away from the front of the phone (where your precious brains reside) and redirects it towards the back and sides of the phone. Pong claims, and Wired confirms, that its cases can reduce the amount of radiation that we come into contact with while strengthening our cell signal.
A beautiful leather case that provides an extra warmth and tactile experience, juxtaposing perfectly against the cold aluminium and glass.
It’s been too long since I’ve visited Hard Graft, they deliver again with this latest release, the iPhone 5 Back Up Case & Cover. The set includes a leather shell for your iPhone and a wool sleeve which provides an additional layer of protection, particularly for the screen, when you want to throw it (gently please) in your bag and go. The wool case also has a little notch that keeps your iPhone propped up when you need a stand.
The leather Back Up Case is handmade in their Italian workshop; I’ve always found that leather and wool add a feeling of warmth to offset to cold precision of the iPhone.
A fun case for the iPhoneographer and a perfect match for all the classic cameras on the app store; they make your phone look like a vintage Leica. The foam-lined polycarbonate exterior of the GIZMON iCA can be assembled with a smart leather case to make it extra durable. There’s also a soft, silicone version and other accessories, like a remote shutter designed like a roll of 35mm film and special lens to enhance your photos (the mock lens has a mirror for self-portraits). The leather case comes in black, brown, green, or red.
Having a case like this is reason enough to own an iphone.
Exactly! I love small companies such as this and the ability to see, how and by whom, what would certainly be a cherished product is made. These are the companies I like to support.

It wasn’t so long ago that I thought the iPhone would bring about the death of personalizing the mobile phone, thinking that all the personality would come from software, not external dangles and such. I was wrong. The iPhone has created an accessory market busting with interesting ideas for personalization. A cross stitch iPhone case with a multitude of patterns!
Technology and craft meet in this ingenious kit! This cross stitch kit comes with a 33 by 69 grid cross stitch case, three colors of thread, a needle, and a booklet of designs. Get creative – we love the idea of making this with a vintage cross-stitch pattern for a wonderful juxtaposition of the new and old! Fits both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S.
This impact resistant PolyCore shell case from Casemate is going to protect your iPhone from the nominal nicks and bumps that regular use might indicate. Which is to say is pretty much indistinguishable from a million other cases out there expect for it’s selection of unique soft pastel colours. Also features a slim profile and access to all ports and functions.

Handmade in Hamburg, Pack & Smooch’s Leichester iPhone wallet case is made from 100% merino wool felt and vegetable tanned leather. I wouldn’t feel comfortable carrying all credit cards and iPhone in one case but that outside pocket would be useful for small bills or the bits of important bits of paper that I still seem to gather throughout the day. One nitpick is the red branding which seems poorly executed and though a popular device perhaps unnecessary. Otherwise a wonderful case in which to carry your iPhone and much preferred to the mass produced cases by other brands.

I don’t think I have ever thought of the exterior of a hard shell smart-phone case as information display, it’s a great idea in this usage, and I could imagine many other situations where this might be practical. This might be too analogue, when you consider the possibilities of the device it contains, but I’m thinking some kind of writing surface might even be a good usage.
