Wytze’s graduation project for Cannondale

“The Dutchess, a new concept bike designed by Wytze van Mansum, a design student at the TU Delft for Cannondale. According to a company statement, the bike was “designed for women keen to express their style amongst the fast paced and ever changing urban vibe.”

    A pastel-coloured swoopy shaft-drive fixie. Love the integrated handlebars/lock design (except it presumes all racks have a fixed height).
    Shaft drives are an ancient design that lost out to chain drives for bicycles somewhere a hundred or more years ago. Advantages: low-to-no maintenance; no-to-low greasy dirt; high and sustained efficiency. Disadvantages: some net extra weight (around 1 kg); costly until volumes ramp up.
    And brakes are not yet installed.
